3 Tips for Brock University Students Planning Spring Break Travel

So, you’re a Brock University student travelling during spring break. It sounds like a great adventure, but like any adventure things can quickly go awry if you don’t plan ahead. Which is why if you’re going to be spending any time behind the wheel during your break, especially if you’re visiting a major city in the USA, you should keep these simple tips in mind.

Tip #1: Plan Your Route

Thanks to advances in technology, most of us have access to global positioning systems. Whether it’s a stand-alone unit, or an app on our phones, most of us trust what the eye in the sky has to say when it comes to where we need to turn. However, while there’s nothing wrong with bringing your GPS along on your spring break trip, it’s a good idea to know where you are in case your technology loses its connection.

There are a lot of ways you could do this. For example, you could go the old-fashioned route and plan your road trip out with a road atlas and a brightly colored marker. You can even make the planning a group activity while you all try to find the best route between you, and where you’re going. You can also mark secondary routes, familiarizing yourself with the area so that if you hit an accident or construction, it’s still possible to take an alternative road. If you don’t want to carry bulky maps in your car, though, you can get directions from a service like MapQuest, and save the image in your phone. That way even if you have no Internet connection, you still know where you’re supposed to go.

Tip #2: Plan Your Departure and Travel Times

There’s a certain art to choosing when you get on the road for a spring break trip. For example, leaving early in the morning might let you beat the rush, but when are you going to hit areas of major highway congestion? Sure, the road might be empty where you’re starting, but if you hit the suburbs of a major city around the morning rush, you’re stuck in traffic right alongside everyone else trying to get from A to B.

While your spring break trip shouldn’t be treated like a math problem, it is important to have an idea of when you’re going to leave, and to have a rough idea when you’re going to hit certain parts of the journey. It’s also, however, important to be able to adapt your plans to deal with what’s actually happening. Lastly, if you really want to have wide open roads, try driving late at night.

Tip #3: Use Parqex For All Your Parking Needs

One of the biggest pains you’re going to deal with while you’re on your spring break trip is parking. Sure, you have the freedom that comes with having your car with you, but that doesn’t make downtown parking any cheaper, or any simpler to navigate.

The Parqex app, on the other hand, can be the answer to your prayers when it comes to finding discount parking, or when you want to rent a parking spot in advance. For example, say you’re going downtown in the Windy City to attend a concert, or to go on a tour with your friends. Rather than trying to navigate Chicago parking while hoping for the best, you could simply log on to the Parqex app, and find where there’s parking near your event. You rent a spot in advance, and pay digitally right from your phone. Then all you have to do is drive to your reserved place, and park. There’s no frustration, no irritation, and best of all, you don’t find yourself late to an event because you had to circle the block six times before parking half a mile away.
